Save Money on Laundry- Even at the Laundry Mat!

1. Full Loads ONLY

Don't waste power or your money by putting in a less than full load. Hold off on a load of laundry until you have a full load.

2. Use dryer balls

Dryer balls have cut my drying time saving me money and power. Personally, I use the wool balls, I have used the hard blue plastic ones and hated them. There are so many brands to choose from. After trying 3 types of dryer balls I stuck with Organic New Zealand Wool Dryer balls which can be bought on Amazon.

3. Invest in a drying tree

When I moved from a 5 bedroom house with a yard to a condo  I realized just how much I missed having a spot to dryer clothes without using the dryer. Laundry drying tree's come in all kinds of shapes and sizes to fit your needs. They can be set up in doors and even on a balcony.

4.Use vinegar as softener

Vinegar is amazing for so many things. Here is a great tutorial on how to make your own solution of scented vinegar laundry softener.

When it comes to Vinegar I just can't stand the smell of it, so I did some looking around and found the Laundress Scented Vinegar for laundry and that is what I now use.

5. Make your own laundry soap

Wellness Mama has a great recipe for making your own laundry soap.

If you want a Borax free formula then Mommy Potamus has an awesome alternative recipe.

6.Never forget dryer lint

Always check the lint trap before starting the load and at the end of the load. If you are passing by the machine during a load, open it up clean it out and re-start.

7. Don't trust kids dirty laundry

When it comes to just grabbing your kids laundry basket and throwing it in...don't! 3 boys taught me that anything that they don't feel like putting away ends up in the dirty laundry. Still folded clothes find their way there too! Sort it and check it before doing it. You will save yourself extra work and a waste of a laundry load.

8. Use the shortest cycle

If your load is not covered in mud dirt and grime, then select the shortest cycle. Don't waste your money running a 4-minute load for just slightly dirty t-shirts.
